SCRAPILE is the collaborative work of designers Bart Bettencourt and Carlos Salgado. Since it's conception in Fall 2003, this project has continued to yield an ever-evolving line of furniture and product which by their very nature provides each piece to be one of a kind.

Good Design with Great Scraps
It used to be that quilts were pretty much the best idea of a beautiful and functional item made from salvaged material, although "shard art" assembled into murals, pots or picture frames could be pretty cool too.
Lately though innovative ideas for scrap of all kinds have been been crafted into some pretty gorgeous products. Take for example these salvaged wood trendsetters.
Here in the US, SCRAPILE was born in Brooklyn a few years ago by designers Bart Bettencourt and Carlos Salgado. Using a special technique of collecting and repurposing scraps of wood, they create benches, dining tables, stools, side tables and these very cool light fixtures.
The best part of owning SCRAPILE is that, because its reclaimed wood, each piece is completely unique. Bettencourt and Salgados goal was a product that had a positive impact on the environment. Seeking that with their work, these two have developed a unique method of collecting and repurposing discarded scraps of wood from New York's woodworking industry.
Their furniture is created with discarded pieces of wood from local wood shops. According to Carlos Salgado, the idea behind the project was to keep scrap woods from piling up in local landfills. "We wanted to reintroduce these materials back into our daily lives as useful items and objects" says Carlos.
SCRAPILE reduces landfill, helps conserve wood and looks great in your living room.
And over in London, check out the 'patchwork' lamps by Amy Hunting, a Norwegian furniture designer currently working out of London.
Amy has designed a furniture collection made entirely out of the factory wood waste and off-cuts collected from factories in Denmark. The pieces were put together to form a wood patchwork before they were made into chairs, a book box and a series of 12 lamps as shown here.
These lamps were cut out of a large solid block of wood, made up of small off-cuts. The pendant lamps were then cut out of the block until 12 lamps revealed themselves and most all the wood had been cut out. Each lamp is cut slightly smaller to utilize the entire block. They are made entirely out of wood and require no fitting. They can be hung on any bare lamp bulb through the top of the lamp.
The 12 lamps can be stacked on top and inside each other for easy transport.
